It seemed like a great idea to write about music last week when we chose a topic for a blog post as a class. Well, now it seems a bit like I’ve backed myself into a corner. Only a few hundred words to write about music? What should I say? There are so many options! I guess I should start at my most recent music explorations.
I’ve been listening to a lot of electronic music while I study lately, especially electro-pop. Even though I typically have a hard time listening to music while I do school work, there’s something about the erraticness that helps my brain to focus, as if it all blurs into white noise. Usually the music is fast, but even when it’s kind of slow the beat still helps me stay motivated. And often I find it inspiring to listen to something that I think is exceptionally well written and arranged. In a way it makes me want to produce better work.
A byproduct, whether good or bad, is that I’m strongly emotionally affected by the mood of the music. I know this has an influence on my writing, so I usually take care not to listen to a song that will probably make me cry when I don’t want my work to be too depressing.
I rapidly pulled together a short playlist of a few of the songs I’ve been listening to the most lately. I repeated a few of the artists because I couldn’t find tracks for many of the songs I wanted to include.
